  • MINI will unveil two JCW concepts at the Munich Motor Show next month.
  • BMW Motorrad will also be bringing an electric Vision CE concept.
  • The star of the show is the new iX3, which promises to be a game-changing EV.

The Munich Motor Show kicks off next month and the BMW Group is looking to make a splash with an assortment of debuts. Besides the highly publicized BMW iX3, MINI will unveil two new concepts.

The British brand isn’t saying much at this point, but confirmed “two eye-catching JCW show cars will celebrate their world premieres in Munich as part of a suitably gripping presentation.” The company went on to suggest the concepts will be aggressive as they’ll “provide visual evidence of motor sport as a defining element of MINI DNA.”

However, the big debut is the iX3 and BMW is proclaiming it to be “one of the most significant new vehicles in its history.” It will usher in the second Neue Klasse era and sport a bold design as well as an advanced powertrain.

Speaking of the latter, the crossover will use new cylindrical battery cells that have a 20% higher energy density than the prismatic cells being used today. Thanks to this change, the iX3 50 xDrive is slated to have an EPA range of up to 400 miles (800 km WLTP / 900 km CLTC).

The iX3 will also have bidirectional charging as well as a 400 kW DC fast charging capability. This will enable the crossover to get more than 217 miles (350 km) of range in as little as 10 minutes. Other highlights include cheaper and more efficient motors as well as Panoramic iDrive and next-generation driver assistance systems that use AI.

To help drive home the message, BMW Classic will bring a 1961 1500 as it was the first model in the original Neue Klasse lineup. The automaker will also showcase an assortment of other eco-friendly vehicles including the i4, i5, i7, iX, and M5 Touring plug-in hybrid.

BMW Motorrad will also be on hand with the CE 02 and CE 04. The company also mentioned a Vision CE concept, which promises a “fascinating look ahead to how developers and designers are envisaging the future of fully electric scooters for the big city.”
