The carmaker will communicate directly with customers while ironing out an unspecified problem

- Suzuki has halted Jimny XL sales in Australia over an unspecified, non-safety issue.
- Dealers are instructed to cancel orders and refund deposits to affected customers.
- Safety regulations earlier this year forced Suzuki to stop selling the three-door locally.
A setback has put the suzuki Jimny XL on pause in Australia, with dealers instructed to cancel and refund orders following a stop-sale notice. While this news alone will be enough to rile up customers, shoppers will be even more disappointed to hear that no detailed explanation for the stop-sale has been announced, other than the fact that it is related to an “unspecified problem.”
The Jimny XL, which is the five-door version of the popular off-roader, is currently being analyzed in India, where it is made. The brand’s Australian division has not been informed of the issue, other than being told that it is not a safety-related fault, so there’s no need for existing owners to stop driving.

Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota told Drive that “considering the uncertainty surrounding the timeframe for resolution and based on our experience of similar matters in the past, we recommend the dealers cancel existing Jimny XL orders and return customer deposits where appropriate.”
He added that “this is the most transparent and customer-centric course of action at this time and the best thing to do for our customers that are waiting on delivery of their new Jimny XL.”

What Customers Can Do
Buyers are free to remain in the delivery queue should they wish. Suzuki has asked dealers to provide it with the details of these loyal customers so it can share additional information directly with them. Suzuki in Japan has provided no update on its investigation, nor has it provided a timeline as to when the problem could be fixed.
The Jimny XL has been the only version of the pint-sized off-roader offered locally. This is because Suzuki was forced to stop local sales of the three-door model in March this year because it doesn’t have mandated autonomous emergency braking technology. An update is being readied for early 2026 that will allow Suzuki Australia to once again sell the three-door version.
