Few small automakers have made as much of a splash in recent years as Kimera Automobili. Known for reimagining the legendary Lancia 037, the company first introduced the EVO37, later evolving it into the EVO38 with all-wheel drive. The latest example, freshly completed and shown at Monterey Car Week in California, perfectly combines Italian rally heritage with a modern twist.

This EVO38 is number 2 of the 38 cars bound for the production line, and might just be Kimera’s finest creation to date. It’s finished in a stunning shade of blue and truly looks like a piece of art on wheels. From the modern LED headlights, through to the classic Lancia style front grille, and the massive rear lip spoiler, the EVO38 is what Lancia itself should be building, not the lame Ypsilon.
Power comes from a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that’s both supercharged and turbocharged, allowing it to deliver 600 hp. There is also a 48-volt electronic system. As mentioned, power is sent to all four wheels in the EVO38, whereas the EVO37 is rear-wheel drive.
A Showpiece Interior
For as stunning as the exterior and engine bay of the car are, it’s perhaps the interior that is the highlight. Running through the center of the cabin is a glass tunnel that offers an unimpeded view of the central driveshaft, finished in blue with red accents.
The EVO38 also uses a gear level crafted entirely from billet aluminum and uses a hydraulic handbrake. Just like a modern rally car, there’s also a selectable torque splitter to choose how much power is sent to the front and rear axles.
Elsewhere within the car’s cabin is Alcantara, milled aluminum, and plenty of carbon fiber. Drivers can also adjust things like the engine maps, power delivery, suspension, traction control, and even the ABS functions.
An Exhaust with Drama
The exhaust system is as much about performance as it is about theater. There are two main tailpipes placed within the rear diffuser, but sitting in the center of the rear grille is a larger central pipe. It has been placed immediately behind the turbocharger and can be opened up at the press of a button to really let the four-cylinder sing.
Kimera has not disclosed pricing for the EVO38, though given the EVO37’s starting point of around €480,000 (approximately $558,000), this upgraded model will likely command a higher price. According to the company, most of the 38 planned units are already spoken for, underscoring the appeal of this modern homage to a motorsport icon.
